Egenverk Lagom · Documentation
Getting started
Egenverk Lagom keeps WordPress and WooCommerce just right: a lighter dashboard, tidy scheduler tables, a watch on runaway requests and a leaner database. Lagom is made of eight modules that you switch on one at a time, and every one ships off. Anything that removes something counts first and shows you the number, and every run lands in a log.
Requirements
- WordPress 6.5 or later
- PHP 7.4 or later
- WooCommerce is optional. Figures for shop sessions and scheduler jobs appear when WooCommerce is active, and order search works on WooCommerce orders.
- The scheduler tables are cleaned through Action Scheduler, which ships with WooCommerce.
Install
- Get the plugin: contact us.
- Upload the zip file under Plugins → Add New, or put the
egenverk-lagomfolder inwp-content/plugins/. - Activate Egenverk Lagom under Plugins.
Find Lagom
Lagom has its own item in the admin menu, Lagom, right after Settings. The address is admin.php?page=egenverk-lagom, and the Settings link under Lagom on the Plugins page leads there. Older addresses under Tools lead there too. The page is open to administrators only.
The page has four tabs:
| Tab | Holds |
|---|---|
| Overview | Health figures, module states and recent activity |
| Performance | Dashboard widgets, Request watch, and Heartbeat, transients and sessions |
| Order search | Fast order search |
| Appearance | The wp-admin skin |
The Advanced tab
Tools that need technical judgement sit on a fifth tab, Advanced, which each administrator turns on for themselves: Scheduler tables, Database, CSS and JS per page with plugin rules, and Lagom's own order search index. A wrong choice there can slow the shop down or break it.
Turn the tab on with the Show advanced tools button at the bottom of Lagom's page, or with the Show advanced tools box under the Lagom heading on your profile. Hide advanced tools hides it again.
The overview
Under Right now, Overview shows six figures:
| Figure | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Revisions | Old versions of posts and pages |
| Expired transients | Expired transients left behind in the options table |
| Space | The size of the tables with this site's prefix |
| Autoloaded options | What is read on every request. Marked when it passes the Database module's warning level, 800 KB by default. |
| Finished scheduler jobs | Finished, canceled and failed Action Scheduler jobs. Marked above 50,000. |
| Shop sessions | Rows in WooCommerce's sessions table |
The figures are counted without changing anything and kept for ten minutes. The Measured … ago · measure again button counts them again at once.
Under Modules each module is listed with its state, On or Off, a line on what it does and a link to its Settings. Recent activity shows the eight latest things Lagom removed or changed.
How settings are saved
- Tabs switch without reloading the page. The address follows, so a tab can be bookmarked and the back button works.
- A module switch saves at once and shows On or Off beside it.
- When you change other fields, a save bar appears with Undo changes and Save settings. If you leave the tab with unsaved changes, Lagom asks first.
- Each tab saves only its own modules. The others keep their values.
- Results, refusals and errors are shown as notifications in the corner.
First step
- Open Overview and see what the figures say about your site.
- Pick the module that solves your biggest problem and read about it under Modules or CSS and JS.
- Switch the module on. Scheduler tables and Heartbeat, transients and sessions can only be switched on after Show what would be removed has counted within the last ten minutes.
- Watch the log on the module's card and Recent activity for the first few days before you switch on the next module.
